Organized at Quincy, Ill., April 24, 1864. Ordered to Annapolis, Md., May 27, 1864, then to Alexandria, Va. Attached to the defense of Washington, D.C., Twenty-second Corps, to June, 1864. Joined the Second Brigade, Fourth Division, Ninth Corps, Army of the Potomac, until September, 1864. Moved to Second Brigade, Third Division, Ninth Corps, to December, 1864. If finished its service in the Third Brigade, Second Division, Twenty-fifth Corps, and then the Department of Texas, to November, 1865. Clark Royce joined the regiment as its new colonel on January 1, 1865, while the regiment was in front of Richmond. He continued with the regiment when it was assigned to Texas in May, 1865, and continued with the regiment until it was mustered out on November 6, 1865. The regiment lost during service 3 Officers and 43 Enlisted men killed and mortally wounded and 188 Enlisted men by disease for a total of 234 deaths.
